Haha, no, she was mortified! How on earth could she go to dinner with a man who’d already seen her vagina? It made a great story for the girls, though.

56Sassy6519 April 11, 2013 at 4:30 pm Also, another woman I know got asked out by a resident as he inserted a speculum during a GYN visit. He commented on the clarity of her mucus, then asked her if she had a boyfriend. She thought he was inquiring about safe sex or STDs. When she said no, he said, “Great, would you like to grab a bite some23:45:24”

Wait….what?!

57Susan Walsh April 11, 2013 at 4:51 pm Annnd that’s why my OB is female!

Seriously. I wonder if many men select that specialty anymore. I don’t know a single woman who wants to see a male GYN.

I had an internist, my husband’s too actually, and after my annual exam about ten years ago I mentioned to our best friends (both docs) that I was so pleased with the manual breast exam he’d given me – it had taken a full ten minutes. They looked at each other, eyes wide, then cracked up, then told me I needed a new internist.

58Joe April 11, 2013 at 5:02 pm I hear ya too, Sassy, about doing the things you enjoy. But be careful of the trap. It’s two-fold.

I knew a woman once who just loved dance. She was an instructor, in fact. But when she went to see major performances (at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, no less), she invariably came back dour and critical. She liked and knew dance so much that she spent her time critiquing and totally missing the magic-of-the-arts part.
