Changing the Battery in Your Mazda 3 Key Fob

It's a pain to pull into your car at the end of a long day and find that the key fob is dead. Luckily, this is an easy fix using a simple battery replacement from a hardware store or big box retailer.

A spare key fob for your Mazda 3 is an inexpensive way to avoid having to be towed to a dealership to have them reprogram the keys.

Battery Replacement

The battery replacement in your Mazda 3 key fob is an easy process that can do at home. But, you should only replace the battery if it goes out of service, or if the key fob displays a message in the multi-information display saying, "Low key fob battery. Replace battery."

You'll need a flathead screwdriver with tape and patience to open the case. Put the flathead screwdriver's tip in a notch or gap on the bottom metal of the Mazda 3 key fob to pry the lower half off. Repeat the procedure for the top piece of metal however, be careful not to damage the rubber ring at the bottom of the case.

When the fob case is open, you'll see a slot on either side of the case that houses the battery. Make use of the tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver to gently pry open the case, starting on one side before moving to the other. Remove the old CR2025 and replace it with a new one, making sure you put it on its face to ensure the correct orientation. Place the battery cap on again, and then attach both sides of your key fob case by pressing until they click.

Now that you've replaced the battery check the fob to verify that it's working by locking and unlocking your doors. If everything looks good then your Mazda 3 remote features can be used again.

Pairing https://www.thekeylab.co.uk/mazda-car-keys/ could mean that the transmitter in your car may have been damaged. This is usually a matter for a professional, and you will require a new key fob.

If you have tried replacing the battery and reprogramming the key fob, but this does not solve the issue it could be that the chip in the key fob might be defective. This could happen if the keyfob has been dropped or exposed to saltwater or was touched by dirty fingers.

You will need to locate an extremely small "key" that is built into the seam, to remove the circuit board and diagnose the issue. You will then be able to look for any corrosion or damage on the electronic chip. To avoid damaging the microchip, it is best to use a fresh paper towel.

If you're unsure it is possible to check the battery connector terminals for cracks or broken. If this is the case, carefully attaching them back can generally restore the functionality of the key fob. You can also check the buttons for damage or wear. If the buttons are loosened, they can be resoldered into place, unless one has physically snapped.

Interference Signals

There is nothing more frustrating than looking at a "No Fob Detected" message when trying to start your vehicle. This usually occurs at the most inconvenient moments, like when you're running late for work or if you're picking up kids from daycare/school. There are several things you can try to figure out what's causing the problem.

Interference signals can interfere with the remote key fob's signal to the vehicle making it unable to work correctly. This can be caused by things like weather conditions, buildings, and transmitters that operate on the same frequency. Interference could occur if your vehicle has aftermarket equipment that transmits at the same frequency as your key fob.

Water can get into the rubber seals of the electronic chip especially when the key fob is submerged in water for a long duration. This could cause the chip to cease working, requiring replacement of the key fob. If you have a programmeable key cleaning the chip with isopropyl alcohol or an electronic cleaner to aid in its come back to normal. If this doesn't work will be able to fix the issue, then the chip has burned out and will need to be replaced.

Locking/Unlocking the Doors

The buttons on the fob's key send electronic signals to the solenoid inside the car, which then transforms this signal into a mechanical action. It locks and unlocks doors. If the door lock does not work it could be due to an issue with the solenoid. This requires professional auto repair shops to examine.

A dead 12 volt could cause the fob to stop working effectively. This happens when the battery loses its charge or if the contactors become corroded and stop conducting electricity. The good news is that a new battery can fix this issue in just minutes.

If the key fob won't work after you replace the battery or try to reprogram it the problem could be in the receiver module. This device interprets radio frequency signals sent by the key fob to control the vehicle. If it malfunctions it could be costly to repair.

To test if this is true, put your spare key in the key slot. Then turn the ignition ON. Press the key fob two times for 10 seconds without taking it out. The Mazda 3 system will now synchronize the key with the vehicle and you can then use it as your primary remote for driving. This lets you program up three keys.
