Titration

A highly experienced psychiatrist consultant will conduct a thorough evaluation of your ADHD. This will include an examination of your medical history as well as an assessment using the typical ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your evaluation, you will be advised if medication is considered to be beneficial for your situation. This will be discussed during your follow-up appointment (which can take place in person, by video link, or over the phone). Your physician will go over the various options for medications available. If you decide to start taking medication, we will offer you to titrate your dose to ensure the best balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This process can take several weeks, and it involves gradually altering your child's medication until the right balance is achieved. It is not uncommon to have to titrate up to three different medicines before you can find the one that is most suitable for your child's ADHD. It's important for parents to take part in this process of titration, and keep an eye on their child's behaviour to inform the doctor if the medicine is helping or causing adverse effects.

Unless you have decided to return to NHS treatment the medication you take will be issued with a private prescription which you'll have to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in your consultation fees). You must attend six-monthly appointments to monitor your medications. This includes blood pressure and pulse measurements. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the evaluation is completed, you can schedule appointment with the psychiatrist. The appointment will usually be conducted by video conference using zoom. However, in certain cases, it may be possible for an audio-only appointment to be scheduled (again at an additional cost).

In this session, we'll discuss any treatment options and decide on a custom-made ADHD medication titration strategy. This will include a review of your medication dose and an examination of any side effects you might be experiencing. These titrations cost PS150 for face-toface sessions and PS60 by video or phone consultation. Medication costs are additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The psychiatrist will ask you questions about your family history and the impact of your ADHD symptoms on your daily life and any mental health issues that you might be experiencing. This is due to the fact that ADHD is a genetic condition and it is essential to examine any family history that may indicate that you're at risk of developing the disorder.

During this assessment it is essential that you are truthful and honest with your doctor in the sense that they will be using the information you provide to determine whether you have the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. This is a crucial step, as a wrong diagnosis could result in a prescription for medication that is not appropriate.

If you've decided you'd like to receive treatment for your ADHD We will set up a follow-up appointment with one of our psychiatrists who specialise in this field. This can be scheduled at the time of your diagnosis if you are eager to begin treatment immediately, or within two weeks if want to think about the implications of your diagnosis and the options available to you.

We recommend that if you are unsure of your preferences, you speak with your GP prior to scheduling your private appointment. Some providers have different policies on whether they require an GP letter. Make sure that your GP accepts the Shared Care Agreement, which means that you will be referred to them once you leave the clinic to get a prescription medication.

Medication

For many people who want an official diagnosis of ADHD treatment is a crucial element of their treatment. It isn't always easy to obtain prescriptions from psychiatrists on the NHS. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long and GPs can be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.

Requesting your GP to refer through Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry UK and ADHD 360). You can select a provider that offers a private assessment service and the titration. This can help you to save time and also be more convenient, especially if you have a busy work schedule.

If https://www.iampsychiatry.uk/private-adult-adhd-titration/ are identified as a candidate for this treatment your chosen doctor will assess you and decide whether or not you're required to be monitored for a dose of medication. You will be asked to fill out forms that are different for each provider, but the main ones are self-report questionnaires as well as medical histories from childhood to adulthood. These forms will allow your doctor to determine if there are any factors that could mean you shouldn't take ADHD medications, when they've been prescribed.

If you are titrated on medication, it is likely to be a combination of stimulants and non-stimulant medications. They will be carefully tested and monitored to determine the most effective combination for you, taking into consideration any current conditions you suffer from. The titration process may be lengthy and may need some additional appointments before you're able to stay on your dose.

Depending on the type of medication you're taking, follow up appointments could be scheduled monthly or quarterly. Your doctor will ensure whether you are safe with the medication, record any side effects you've experienced, and make any necessary adjustments to ensure you remain on a dose that is safe. You will also be required to undergo a regular health check, which could include blood pressure readings, pulse and weight and an annual check-up.

Some people may be satisfied with their treatment and therefore do not require discussing their titration process further. If you need to discuss your titration or treatment plan further it is possible that you'll be referred back to the private clinic who performed your initial assessment. In this instance the titration will be included in the consultation fee. The medication will be provided through a private prescription. This may cost more than a prescription from the NHS, as the pharmacy will charge you for the medication.
