The Immobilizer System

This is an important security measure to prevent car thieves from hotwiring the immobilizer or bypassing it in any other way. If the immobilizer isn't able to recognize the key, it won't permit the engine to turn on even if someone attempts to short-circuit the ignition circuit.
Modern cars come with advanced electronic Engine Immobilizers, which use shifting or rolling codes. This means that every time a key is used, the intelligent system changes the second code before pushing it into the chip within the key. The first code is permanent, and the immobilizer is able to check the codes each time the ignition key is turned.
This is a sophisticated technology that is difficult to hack. This is why the majority of stolen vehicles aren't able to be started.
