When you turn and insert your Peugeot key, it sends an electronic code to the engine control system. If the code doesn't match, the engine will not start. This prevents unauthorized car theft. An expert locksmith can assist you when your Peugeot immobilizer isn't working. They can program a replacement or new key by using tools used for dealers. This can save time and money. They will also be there for you and you won't need to wait for a long time in the dealership.

Not all antitheft gadgets are created equally. The Thatcham Research organisation tests anti-theft technologies and grades them to ensure they are in compliance with the highest safety standards. They test the system's capabilities by studying the messages sent between the immobilizer components and the CAN bus traffic.

Even the best systems can be vulnerable if targeted properly. In one study, Jan Bokslag used weaknesses in the Hitag2 protocol to stealthily crack 3 cars that were all older models. It took just 10 seconds to get the security code of a vehicle from one of the three. This information is used to generate a key that disables the immobilizer. The other two keys were more difficult to break however they did eventually become broken.

The Immobilizer Chip

A key that is chipped is also referred to as a Smart Key, has a RFID micro-chip that transmits an encrypted passcode from the key to the immobilizer system of the car. If the code on the chip matches that of the car's immobilizer system, the car will begin.

This is an important security measure to prevent car thieves from hotwiring the immobilizer or bypassing it in any other way. If the immobilizer isn't able to recognize the key, it won't permit the engine to turn on even if someone attempts to short-circuit the ignition circuit.

Modern cars come with advanced electronic Engine Immobilizers, which use shifting or rolling codes. This means that every time a key is used, the intelligent system changes the second code before pushing it into the chip within the key. The first code is permanent, and the immobilizer is able to check the codes each time the ignition key is turned.

This is a sophisticated technology that is difficult to hack. This is why the majority of stolen vehicles aren't able to be started. If your Peugeot starts, but then shuts down it's probably not the immobilizer. It could be one of a myriad of electrical issues that are causing the car to stop working. Our auto locksmiths are able resolve these issues. They can also reprogram chipped or smart Peugeot Key so that it will work again.

The Battery

The transponder chip found in Peugeot car keys when connected to the vehicle disables the immobiliser system within the ECU. This enables the vehicle to start and also allows key fob control of the doors and boot. The chip is concealed within the head of the remote or manual key.

When the 206 first came out in 1999, Peugeot was facing a lot of competition from minivans such as the Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Polo. The unique approach of Peugeot's 206 was that it did not directly replace the 205, instead it was designed to be a bridge between the smaller Peugeot 106 and the larger range of 306. This was to ensure that lower models of the 306 and 106 could draw sales away from the higher high-end 205s.

The 206 line-up includes three models: one hatchback (206 CC), a 2-door cabriolet coupe, and a station-wagon (206 SW). The 207 GTi was a WRC-homologated version of 206 that could go from 100 km/h to 0 in just 7.4 seconds, and reach speeds of up to 210 km/h.
