The Immobilizer System

img width="336" src="https://www.thekeylab.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/IMG_8257-836x1024.jpeg"> When you turn on and insert your Peugeot key, it sends a code electronically to the engine control system. If the code doesn't match the code, the engine won't start. This prevents unauthorized car theft. If you're having issues with your Peugeot car immobilizer, a professional automotive locksmith can help. They can program a new or replacement key with tools that are common for dealers. This can help you save time and money. They will also come to your location so that you don't have to wait for a long time at the dealership.

However, not all antitheft systems are created equal. The Thatcham Research organisation tests anti-theft technologies and grades them to ensure that they meet high safety standards. They are able to test the operation of the system by logging into the CAN bus network and analyzing messages that the components of an immobilizer exchange.

Even the best systems can be vulnerable if targeted properly. In one study conducted by researcher Jan Bokslag used known weaknesses in the Hitag2 immobilizer protocol to elude three vehicles, all of them older models. Within ten seconds, a security code for the vehicle was extracted from one of them. This information is used to generate keys that disable the immobilizer. The other two keys were more difficult to break but they did be broken.

The Immobilizer Chip

A key with a chip (often called a Smart Key) has an RFID microchip that transmits a passcode to the car's immobilizer system. If the code on the chip is identical to the code in the car's immobilizer, the car will start.

This is an important anti-theft device that prevents thieves from hotwiring or otherwise bypassing the engine immobilizer. If the immobilizer does not recognize the key the engine will not turn on even if someone attempts to short-circuit ignition circuit.

Modern cars are equipped with modern electronic Engine Immobilizers which employ rolling/changing codes. This means that every time a key is used, the smart system changes the second code and inserts it into the chip within the key. The first code is permanent when the key is put in the ignition, the immobilizer process the two codes to determine if the two codes match.

This is a highly advanced technology that is extremely difficult to hack. This is the reason why many stolen vehicles can't start. It's also why the moment your Peugeot starts and it shuts off it's not likely to be the immobilizer. It could be a number of electrical issues causing your car to stop functioning. Our auto locksmiths are able to resolve these issues. They can also reprogram chipped or smart Peugeot Key so that it will work again.

The Battery

The transponder chip found in Peugeot keys for cars when connected to the vehicle will disable the immobiliser mechanism within the ECU. This enables the vehicle to start, and also allows key fob operation for the doors and boot. The chip is concealed in the head of the remote key or manual.

Peugeot was in a tough spot when the 206 was launched in 1999, mainly from superminis such as the Ford Fiesta or Volkswagen Polo. The unique approach of Peugeot's 206 was that it did not directly replace the 205; rather, it was designed to be a bridge between the smaller Peugeot 106 and the larger range of 306. This was to ensure that lower models of the 106 and 306 could take sales away from the more expensive top 205s.

The 206 line includes the hatchback, a 2-door coupe cabriolet, and station wagons known as the 206 the CC and the 206 SW. There was also an WRC homologated version of the 206, dubbed the 207 GTi that could go from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds and had speeds of 210 km/h.
