What You Need to Know About Your Nissan Key Fob
You've lost your Nissan keyfob, or it has stopped working. Before you call the dealership or panic, go back through your steps to determine where you last saw it.

Smart Keys
The key fob that was included with your Nissan is a vital part of its incredibly advanced keyless entry system. It connects to the vehicle's electronic system to open doors or start the engine, and has a practical design that is easy to carry around. Key fobs also offer convenience features like an alarm that can be locked out that ensures you won't accidentally leave your vehicle with keys inside.
As opposed to earlier models of key fobs, which required you place the key in the ignition slot to access the onboard systems in your vehicle, smart keys function wirelessly. When you walk by the vehicle the Nissan detects the Intelligent Key fob's proximity to it and activates its internal functions. This can be as simple as locking or opening the doors, raising and lowering the tailgate, and even starting the engine.
Certain smart key models are equipped with a valet key hidden in the metal. The key can be pulled from an opening on the back of the Smart Key fob to secure the trunk or glove box before handing it to a valet. The Smart Key fob also features a charging pocket that can be used to charge the battery when it is not in use.

Intelligent Key Fob
With a Nissan Intelligent Key Fob you can open the doors of your car and start the engine at the touch of an button. You can also select a collection of presets that are based on your preferences, like adjusting the mirrors and seat to ensure maximum comfort. You can even manage the music via your phone, meaning you don't have to leave your car.

To do this, remove the key that is hidden from your key fob. Then, open the compartment for its battery. Take out the old battery, then insert a fresh one in its place. Assure that the positive side of the new battery faces in the same direction it did with the old one. Finally close the compartment for the battery and return the key to its hidden place within the case.
Remote Start
Nissan remote start allows drivers to cool or heat their vehicles from outside, so long as they're within the operating range. The ignition in the car is activated when the driver presses an appropriate button on the key fob or smartphone application. Remote start systems can also activate the climate control to allow the driver to decide on their preferred temperature. Some systems feature two-way communications which allows the driver be aware of what's happening inside their vehicle.
If the remote start function of your car isn't functioning, the most frequent reason is a low battery. The key fob is powered by a tiny battery which can be replaced. It can last for around two years. Changing the battery is an easy task, but you'll need to know where of the hidden key on the Intelligent Key fob and how to access the battery compartment.
Flip your fob over, and press the hidden latch on the backside of the keypad. Once the key pad is fully opened remove the battery and replace it with a brand new one, ensuring it is the same dimensions and configuration of the battery you have. Before closing the outer case, make sure that the hidden key is inserted, and that the key fob is assembled correctly. Lockout Protection

Lockout protection helps eliminate nuisance lockouts caused by the impedance relay failing. A special module in power control unit monitors impedance relay activity, and turns off the output. This feature is only available for vehicles that have the Smart Key system or through the personalization menu on the vehicle.
Many fatal accidents have occurred when machines started to run when it was supposed to be turned off for maintenance or repairs. These accidents are often caused by stored energy that isn't properly released. Lock-out-tag-out (LOTO) which makes sure that machines are completely off until an authorized person releases them, helps prevent these incidents.
The LOTO system is comprised of a variety of locks tags, locks, and other equipment that are used to isolate, secure or shut off the machine from electrical sources. All "affected", "authorized" and "qualified" personnel should be instructed in the use of lockout/tagout devices. These devices include but not restricted to chains, locks padlocks and wedges, adapter pins and self-locking fasteners. Each device is identified and labeled, containing the date and the time of application as well as the name of the authorized individual and the reason behind the lockout/tag-out (repair, maintenance, etc). It must be stated clearly that these devices will not be removed until the LOTO procedure is complete.
