Private ADHD Titration

There is currently a nationwide shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing issues and the growing demand for ADHD medications worldwide.

Our service provides private ADHD titration instead of waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessment fees include the cost of a single prescription.

Titration

A highly experienced consultant psychiatrist will conduct a thorough evaluation of your ADHD. This includes a thorough medical history, and an evaluation using the common ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.

Following your assessment you will be informed whether medication may be beneficial for your situation. This will happen during your follow-up appointment (which can be scheduled in person by video link, in person or by telephone). Your doctor will explain the various options for medication and if you decide to start on medication we will offer to titrate dosage to ensure the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This is a process which can take several weeks and involves adjusting the dosage of your child's medication slowly until the right balance is reached. It's not uncommon to to adjust up to three different medications before you can find the one that best fits your child's ADHD. It is essential that parents participate in the titration process and keep an eye out for their child's behavior so that they can let the doctors know whether the medication is working or causing adverse effects.

If you decide to go back to NHS treatment you will be issued an individual prescription for your medication. You will be required to pay the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation cost. You'll be required to attend six monthly appointments to monitor your medication, which includes pulse and blood pressure readings. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the assessment is completed and you are satisfied, you can schedule follow-up appointments with the psychiatrist. The appointment will usually be conducted by video conference using zoom. However, in certain circumstances, it might be possible for an audio-only consultation to be conducted (again at an additional cost).

At this point we will discuss treatment options and decide on a custom-made ADHD medication titration strategy. https://www.iampsychiatry.uk/private-adult-adhd-titration/ will include a review and discussion of your medication dose and any side effects you may be experiencing. The cost for these titration appointments is PS150 for face-to face sessions and PS60 for telephone or online video consultations. The pharmacy will be charged for any medication costs.

The psychiatrist will ask you questions regarding your family history, the impact of your ADHD symptoms on your daily life and any mental health issues that you might be suffering from. ADHD is a genetic condition, and it's vital to assess your family background to determine if you're at a greater risk of developing this disorder.

During the assessment, it is vital that you are truthful and open with the doctor, as they will be using the information you provide to determine if you are able to meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. This is an important step, since an incorrect diagnosis could lead to inappropriate medication prescription.

If you have decided that you'd like to receive treatment for your ADHD We will arrange a follow up appointment with one of our psychiatrists who specialize in this area. If you want to start treatment immediately it is possible to start treatment immediately following the diagnosis. You can also wait two weeks to consider the implications of the diagnosis and what options you have.

We suggest that if are unsure of your preferences, talk to your GP prior to scheduling your private examination. Certain providers have different policies regarding whether or not they require a GP letter. We also advise to check if your GP accepts a "Shared-Care Agreement that means that after you have been discharged from the clinic you will be sent back to them to get the prescription for medication.

Medication

The medication process is an essential element of the process for many who are seeking a private ADHD diagnosis. Getting a prescription from an NHS psychiatrist can be a challenge and long-winded. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long and GPs are often reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.

This means that you can select a provider that offers an assessment and titration service. This will help you reduce time and be more convenient, particularly when you are on a tight work schedule.

After you've been referred through this route the doctor you choose will assess you and decide whether or not you require to be monitored for a dose of medication. You will be asked to fill in forms that are different for each provider, but the main ones are self-report forms and medical histories from childhood to adulthood. These forms will help your clinician determine if there are any reasons that suggest you shouldn't be taking ADHD medication, if they have been prescribed.

If you are being titrated the medication will be a combination stimulants and nonstimulant medicines. These will be thoroughly examined and monitored to determine the most suitable combination for you. The titration process may be lengthy and may require several additional appointments before you're able to stay on your dose.

Depending on the type of medication you're taking, follow-up appointments could be scheduled monthly or quarterly. Your doctor will ensure whether you are safe with the medication, document any side effects you've experienced, and make any necessary adjustments to ensure you remain on a safe dosage. You'll also be required to attend a regular health check that may include blood pressure readings, pulse and weight as well as an annual check-up.

Some people might be satisfied with their medication, and don't need to discuss their titration process further. If you need to discuss your titration plan or treatment plan further it is likely that you'll be referred to the private clinic who made your initial assessment. In this scenario the titration will be included in the consultation cost. The medication will then be administered via the private prescription. This could cost more than prescriptions from the NHS since the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
